Home Visit: Cristina Poelk

Recently, we took a short trip to Stockholm and made a semi-spontaneous stop at Cristina’s home on Södermalm — a lively island district neighbourhood that perfectly blends a cosy, family atmosphere with a creative mix of design shops, independent bars, and small boutiques.

Cristina, creator of @ soft_servings is originally from Hamburg. She's an art director now based in Stockholm, where she works with design brand Hem. She’s also a long-time friend of Veark, and perhaps the proud holder of the record for most of our modular knife racks installed in a single kitchen. We had tried to meet up last summer but never managed to, so when we found ourselves in Stockholm again, catching up with her was at the top of our list.

We talked, unsurprisingly, about kitchens, cooking, and how deeply the kitchen shapes a modern home. As a new parent, Cristina shared how her approach to design has evolved, and how functionality and practicality have taken on new meaning alongside aesthetics.

Her kitchen is a clear reflection of that. Every tool has its place, yet the space feels warm and lived-in. On her long knife rack hangs not just some great kitchen tools but also frequently used items like the baby pacifier, a quiet, charming sign of life finding its rhythm around cooking and care.

She’s been cooking Asian dishes lately, I could tell from a quick peek into her fridge - jars of Hoisin sauces, curry pastes, fresh herbs, neatly packed ingredients and spices.

All in all, it was such a pleasant visit, a glimpse into how design, food, and family life come together so naturally in her home, very much like how we hoped our tools become part of everyday life, shaping small moments of utility in the kitchen.
